Tangila 2023
It’s almost time for Tangila Trail Series 2023. Our scouts and staff have been training hard to compete in one of Zambia’s best trail run events. Held on the beautiful Masebe Ranch in our very own Mkushi farm block, Tangila Trails is foremost a fundraiser for wildlife conservation.
Tangila Trail Series is also an opportunity for scouts and support staff from Zambia’s National Parks and protected areas to come together and compete on a 22km trail run to honor a true hero of African conservation. The Solomon Chidunuka Memorial Challenge is the highlight of the event for the North Swaka Team and training is well underway.
This year we will be entering our biggest team to date with 24 scouts, support staff and Forestry Department representatives. We will also be building fuel-efficient Swaka Stoves throughout the Tangila campsite for use during the weekend of the event. Our Swaka Stove, can be built with 40 bricks, one sack of sand, one sack of anthill clay and a 100mm pipe. It’s simple to build and can save up to 2 tonnes of firewood per year when compared with traditional cooking methods. Try one at this year’s Tangila event or download instructions here and build one yourself.
The other highlight of Tangila Trails 2023 is the return of the Buffalo Soldier Challenge. North Swaka’s top six riders will be competing in the single-gear bicycle event this year. As we look forward to Tangila 2023, here are a few photos from the 2022 Trail Series taken by the official event photographer Emmanuel Mwiche.
