Beekeeping
North Swaka Trust supports the growth of beekeeping as a livelihoods activity in communities living around the North Swaka and Mkushi Headwaters Forest Reserves. Since 2019 North Swaka Trust, in partnership with Foundations Zambia, has distributed over 2500 bee hives in these communities where beekeeping not only provides a sustainable source of income but also an incentive to protect the trees from which the hives hang.
Our beekeeping programme fosters skills development as local community members are trained in hanging hives, bee hive maintenance and honey harvesting. North Swaka Trust links beekeepers to a market for their honey ensuring the hives not only encourage the presence of bees for crop pollination but provide an alternative livelihoods activity which generates income for communities and a monetary incentive to protect trees: No Trees. No Bees. No Honey. No Money.
